OCCUPIED JERUSALEM, (PIC)-- Israel's ministry of Jewish heritage is set to okay a 28 million dollar project to restore 12 historic sites in the Palestinian occupied territories, the Israeli daily Haaretz reported Tuesday. The ministry has also approved setting up a national archive for Israel's musical heritage, a library site, and another national archive in the Kibbutz Ma'agan district near Lake Tiberias. The Israeli board previously passed a project to restore the infrastructure of 16 historic sites throughout occupied Palestine and the occupied Golan Heights, but it has set its sights on moving to the next step Tuesday in determining the budget. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office will allocate around 14 million dollars for restoration alongside another 12 million dollars to be offered by other sponsors. The stage of the restoration process includes developing the historic sites such as Jamle and Um Al Qanatir in the Golan Heights region of Syria, rebuilding the Jewish structure of Tel Arad and other Jewish settlement sites, such as Adas, Nahlot, and the Hasmonean caves in Jerusalem. 4.5 million dollars will be put aside for the Hirodes palace in south Jerusalem. Planners have discussed converting it into an international tourist center. |
