WASHINGTON, (PIC)– The US Senate has called on the Obama administration to launch a diplomatic campaign to dissuade countries from recognising a Palestinian state within 1967 borders if the issue was brought up before the UN Security Council.

The Senate expressed during an its meeting on Thursday morning to oppose any decision by the UNSC to recognise a Palestinian state and decided that the US will veto any such decision stressing that the US will not accept unilateral declaration of a Palestinian state without Israel agreeing to it.

Meanwhile, Congressman Howard L. Berman (D-CA), chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee introduced a resolution opposing Palestinian efforts to promote unilateral recognition of a Palestinian state and supporting a two-state solution reached through negotiations. The US congress passed the resolution.

Meanwhile, the Palestinian Lawmakers affiliated with Hamas condemned the decisions of both houses of the US in this regard and said that these decisions constitute a blow to those wagering on the US to do justice to the Palestinian issue, as the decisions show that the US only cares about Israeli interests.

They accused both US institutions of supporting the culprit against the victim.

They called on the Palestinian Authority to stop all forms of negotiations, direct or indirect and to return to the lap of the people and respond to US bias by seriously seeking Palestinian national reconciliation.
