GAZA, (PIC)-- Kuwaiti parliament speaker Jassem Al-Kharafi made intensified contacts with Egyptian officials to convince them to allow the return of the Palestinian legislative council's delegation via Egyptian territory to the Gaza Strip. Special sources told the PIC that the parliamentary delegation led by Dr. Ahmed Bahar, the first deputy PLC speaker, was finally allowed to return to the Strip to which it arrived late Monday night. The Egyptian authorities had put the condition that the deputies should only go to Haj (pilgrimage) in Saudi Arabia and return but the delegates left for a tour that included Algeria, Libya, Syria, Yemen, and Kuwait, which was its last leg before returning to Cairo en route to Gaza. Egyptian intelligence chief Omar Suleiman reportedly said let the delegates "go and stay with (Khaled) Mishaal". The delegation led by Bahar included MPs Jamila Al-Shanti, Younis Al-Astal, Abdulrahman Al-Jamal, and Mohammed Shihab. The delegates discussed with the Arab officials the Palestinian suffering especially in the besieged Gaza Strip and means of promoting Arab parliamentary efforts in backing of the Palestinian cause. They attended a number of conferences and forums on prisoners and Afro-Arab solidarity in addition to seminars and rallies to mobilize efforts in support of the Palestinian people and cause. |
