BEIRUT, Lebanon (Ma'an) -- Hamas representative in Lebanon Ali Baraka called on President Mahmoud Abbas to "stop his futile negotiations and security cooperation with the Israeli occupation state" and release all political detainees from jails in the West Bank, the Palestinian Information Center reported Wednesday.
According to the Hamas-affiliated news website, Baraka made his remarks in a ceremony held Beirut the day before, which honored the 23rd anniversary of the Hamas movement.
The official told gathered supporters that the Islamist party would continue to champion the "national rights of Palestinians," and vowed "never to relinquish the holy sites" in Jerusalem.
Baraka also called on Lebanon to continue its work to grant Palestinian refugees in the country civil rights, and added that "Hamas will never be a party to any internal Lebanese sectarian or political conflict."
